Then There Were Four

I had so much fun I made four! If you have seen the tutorial Moda's bake shop, do it. It's fun and sew easy!

Though I one thing I had problems with, was the button. Then I remembered I had big doll needle. So if you do make one (or four) was a big long needle to put your button on.

A Stitch or Two

Yea, I'm still here. Still blue and it's still raining. Last night it rained so much, I now have a river through my yard. It was so windy last night, it keep me awake. Luckily, no damage and it doesn't appear to have toppled any trees in our yard. This means lots of clean up when the sun finally comes out.

I have been at my machine this morning. I was inspired by a pin cushion I saw at Moda's bake shop.

Here is my first ever attempt at a cathedral window.
Not too bad. Notice how my middle doesn't meet. Good thing a button will cover it!
But I'm having fun and will continue.

Blah

Straight up, I'm blaming the weather. I should be wanting to quilt in the grey days of winter. But I don't. All these grey days are zapping my energy.
We even had snowfall this weekend! I know we need it, but I hate it. Cold grey days are not inspiring.

But today I see a bit of sun! Hurray! I'm going to go soak up some vitamin D through my hair.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Unfocused

I've been like a butterfly, flying from project to project.

I haven't completed a single one, but I've handled several.

My color chip challenge has a few silk flowers in it.

My cousins blue quilt now has a couple of actual rows.

The UFO has two sides with vines and one whole leaf!

I made a slight detour with a cute ballet bag.

This weeks goal: More of the same. Maybe even finish something.

A New UFO

This UFO has been hanging over my curtain rob for over a year. I started it in 2010 and was really excited about it. Then I lost interest. I got bored with all the appliqué (I'm surprised to hear me say that too). Maybe it is because they were all the same blocks?
Whatever it was, I hung it up and used it as a curtain. I know, so disrespectful.

Well I've finally found some inspiration and decided to move forward.
Part of that was making the decision to do my own thing, making it up as I go.

So to start, I pulled out this really crazy ruler that my Grandmother gave me. I don't know how to use, but I'm making use of it.

We don't need fancy tools! Make it up as you go. That'll be my new motto. Of course if it doesn't work, ignore me.

After I drew some lines, I cut up a pile of basis stripes and pinned them down. Now the fun part, appliqué!

When I've finish, I'll show you another pic. Hopefully I'll discover a wonderful new technique using that strange ruler.

I'm not the only one to think this cheddar is a winner. I really must be strong and not start a new project! But I've always wanted a pomegranate quilt and of course my mind is churning with layouts. Must be strong!

I finished all the appliqué. Next time you see this block it should be set with borders.

Now back to all the housework. Don't you feel sorry for poor sick me?

Have a great weekend!

Color Chips

I can't help it! I've started another block for the color chip challenge.

Between coughing fits I just keep cutting. Maybe someone should put the fabric away?

Also I just received this lovely cheddar and I SO wanted to see how it looked.

I'm sold! Love it! So now (someday) I can do a real pomegranate quilt.

It's Alive

I may live. Today my head stays stationary and moves when I do, not feeling as if I left it in another room with every step. And another good thing, two nostrils for air. That's my favorite part, being able to breathe again. Hurray!

Now for some quilty show and tell. A little block, still unadorned, but a start. My guild started a new challenge. We were given two paint chips, can you tell what my two colors are?

Next I'll appliqué some flowers in the basket. I just needed a couch project and this was it.

Thank you for all the well wishes, they're working!

An Improvement

I must have bad karma, because I'm still under the weather. I finally went to the Dr and came home with 10 days of antibiotics. Not looking forward to taking them but not looking forward being a mouth breather either. And it would be nice to breath without gurgling or coughing. I had just enough energy to grab so probiotics for after. Glad to be home.

Yesterday I convinced my family that I needed a ride to Lowe's to pick up a few items.
I've been collecting a few antique sewing items and they have been taking over my sewing space. So I NEEDED to fix it, sick or not.
Here is a before (with a little clean up)
To an after.
I'll have you know, this took me hours to finish. At least an hour to hang the shelf. Drill one hole, rest for 15 minutes. Repeat 5 times.

I also bought a set of smaller shelves for the opposite side of the room, but I'm not ready for them. I may need to finish those antibiotics before I tackle them.

Hope all is well in your worlds and blog ladies! I need entertainment as I lay on my couch coughing up lung slugs!

Take care, Brandie

Murphy's Law

I've been so lazy this last week and wouldn't you know that it's caught up with me.

I woke up tuesday with some pain in my chest. I don't know how you feel about it, but I think bronchitis is the worse pain ever! Way worse than childbirth!
So I started with some expectorant and lots and lots of hot scalding tea.

Today it's is my head. Much better except I sound terrible.

Yesterday I decided to do something, instead of curling up with a book. I cut out a million more squares for my cousins wedding quilt.

I had begged some scraps off my quilting buddies and finally got around to cutting them out.

Have I mentioned that this will be a scrappy quilt?

With my own scraps I had enough to complete about a third of the quilt. Then I ran out. Thank goodness I have quilty friends! They really answered a need.

So what do you think of my partial layout?

It's coming along. If I can keep up, I should be finished with this in the fall.

Of course now that I don't feel 100 percent, I want to do more. I really do want to sit at my machine and quilt. I really do want to sew 100 more 9-patches.
I really don't want to do housework. I'm too tired for that!

Wishing you all a wonderful germ free day!
Take care, Brandie
